Thank you!

Thank you, YBKeep's mum and aunt, who arrived yesterday evening to count varroa trapped in Crisco on the two file folders. The count was 70+ for the red (swarmed) hive, and 750+ for the yellow hive.

The relatively low number in the red hive is as expected: first, because the swarm early in July took the main varroa burden with it, and, second, because of the swarm and the time-gap in laying caused by re-queening, this hive contains fewer bees; incidentally, the yellow hive's varroa count at this time of year is approximately expected--not considered astronomical.

Thanks also for taking the extracted honey frames and supers upstairs in the house for winter storage!

Next weekend, the three honey supers on the hives come off, and the brood boxes treated for varroa.
